The Wave Around is the brainchild of two west coast born and raised motorsport fans, who wanted to create content about the sport they love.
Jack Freeman and Cam Hanson, originally met at Sacramento State, during our time at the student newspaper The State Hornet. We quickly bonded over their shared passion for NASCAR and are now developing The Wave Around as a way to share stories and build their portfolios.
We hope to not only cover the highest levels of motorsport, but shine a light on the lower ranks as well, telling the stories of those who are scraping their way up the ranks of the sport. Our mission is to bring awareness and passion to the levels of the sport that are ignored in the areas where we grew up.

Get to know us:
Jack Freeman: I grew up in the California Bay Area, where it was hard to find fellow motorsport fans, so I am thrilled to start The Wave Around project. I look forward to covering local motorsports in Northern California and finding a community of fellow fans.
I primarily follow stock car racing, especially NASCAR, but can’t wait to dive into all of what American motorsports has to offer. I haven’t been to many dirt races in my life, so I hope to attend and cover some this year for The Wave Around.
When I’m not watching NASCAR or any other car go in a circle, I’m still working for The State Hornet and finishing my Bachelor’s degree in Journalism at Sac State. Once I graduate in May, I hope to continue my journalism journey with The Wave Around as a part of it.
Cam Hanson: I grew up in the Oregon Willamette Valley where, much like my colleague, it was hard to find any real attention towards motorsport. The Wave Around gives me the ability to express my love for the sport in new ways in an area that has untouched ground.
My interest in motorsport began with stock car racing courtesy of my grandpa (the biggest Dale Sr. fan on the West Coast) but gradually spread into other forms of motorsport. It wasn’t until I found myself at dirt venues and sportscar events that broadened my horizons within motorsports. Oregon is a hot bed for local dirt racing, and I can’t wait to cover events at local venues around the state.
I currently have a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Sacramento State and look to use The Wave Around as just one stepping stone into the realm of motorsports media! Besides writing and watching motorsports, I love photography, comics and taking long walks.
